There are ways to find the closest number in a list using vexpr. However, I realized that when you have a input number that is just in the middle of two other numbers (where both numbers are equally closest to the input number and where both numbers could be correct answers, e. g. 7 is just in the middle between 5 and 9) it will always choose the lower number as the closest one and never ever choose the upper one.

Italo Lombardo provide a good approach and solution...
