I have a max patch that navigates a folder structure to find and load files. I do it dynamically with the 'folder' object, but it's a little slower and less consistent than I'd like.

I had the idea of scanning the directory (and subdirectories) at patcher load into a nested dictionary and querying that instead.

There would probably be about 20,000 files in 4 levels in the dict.

Does know if this is going to slow my patch to a crawl (compared to dynamically querying the 'folder' object)?

I'm pretty good with Max, but my brain turns to mush when thinking about how to implement this. Does anyone have any pointers on how to iterate through nested subfolders and build a dictionary of all files contained within?

I know it's standard forum practice to attach some starter code, but I'm really drawing a blank.
