good ol' dongle

hi , i have just bought max7 and discovered that Ilok Dongle is no longer supported as a validation key , loading Max . This is very (very , very) annoying to me . I'm Often working on several projects in the same time , using different computers . In most cases , i have to test these computers ' with some patch (beginnings of patches) , to be sure that i' ll be able to use them . As soon as it seems ok , i continue developing the software on this same computer , so that each time there should be a problem with my patch , that would occur only on this machine , i'm immediately aware of it . Without the Dongle validation , as in Max 7 , it seems i'll always have to develop on my own computer (which is not always the speediest) ,and then open the patch in runtime , on the other computer . without the possibility to edit the patch . Is this really the case ? is there a way to be able to work simultaneously on , let's say , 3 computers , and to be able to move the registration from these ones to others , quickly ?
    cheers Matthieu

hi!I was afraid that would happen when I first read about the new licencing scheme. At the moment this really seems to be a good reason for me to not buy max 7.. I consatntly have to switch between different computers.. Is this really true? no dongle anymore? Please cycling!
(btw. is this you, montreal matthieu? Back from mexico?)

You may have 3 machines authorised at any one time. Our license asks you only edit on one of them.
These 3 machines are reserved for your account use for 180 days from the last sign in.
There is currently no way to "deregister" a machine from your machine count without contacting us in support.
We are happy for you to contact us in support for this reason.
Gaining control of our auth system is a big win for us, and there is no reason to suggest that all of the authorisation options are set in stone. We are very interested in getting people's feedback on this, and working with people to get Max 7 going in their workflow
      A couple of other things.
The new "runtime" behaviour allows opening and editing but not saving.
You may find in certain situations where you are rapidly developing on a machine that it is more convenient for you to create a new account and run the demo for 30 days.
Any questions, please feel free to ask
      Cheers

Perhaps a simple description of the workflow would help. So lets say i am working in the morning on my desktop, and then in the evening i want to work with my laptop. Both registered machines.
Do i need to do something to specify which is the 'editing' machine ? Do i need to be connected in the internet ? Or is this more like a gentleman's agreement ?
It would be nice though if you would allow users to de-register machines as they choose though. Paying customers have been long tyrannized by anti-theft schemes, whilst, well they are not the ones stealing. (last point is a general one not referred to cycling, but it is a true problem.)

We do not enforce the single user editing thing, it is by gentleperson's agreement.
      Cheers

Great ! I've always felt a little bit restricted with not having opted for the dongle. This should work fine. Thanks a lot Andre for the fast reply :)

On the bright side, your Max5 or Max6 dongle still works!

Well I understand that Cycling want to own/ control their authorisation scheme. But first we were required to get the dongle if we changed machines a lot, and now it is abandoned. The dongle made it easy to work on the required patch while on the go/ working on an installation. I'll have to see if this will make do, I guess so. It just feels a bit more risky. (what if we already used the demo on a machine?)
