I have recently purchased a Behringer X-Touch and X-Touch extender to use with Ableton 10. I have the controller working quite well but one thing is bugging me, I cannot make the coloured windows on the controller match my track colours in Ableton, I don't think MackieControl has this function at all. But the little screens on the Behringer do change colour using sysex.

This brings me on M4L, I see that in Ableton 10 there is some basic sysex functionality, so my theory is maybe I can use M4L to grab the selected track colour and then send to sysex to the Behringer, making the colours work!

Problem is I am a complete beginner, never used M4L at all, I'm watching tutorials etc trying to learn as much as possible, but I cannot figure out how to grab the selected track colour, am I missing a trick or is this not possible?

Thank you Double_UG for your reply and effort, I believe that's just what I need to get me started with this! Quick question please (I think I may well be being stupid here), within Max the option 'Export Max for Live Device' is greyed out, I gather this is what I would need to use to get this into Ableton. Would you have any idea why please?

I have been trying to use your patch since you kindly uploaded for me, but I'm completely stuck... From what I understand to create a M4L device you have to do so from Live via the preset audio/midi/instrument devices, which effectively act as templates for new M4L devices. When I go to the file menu and select new from clipboard and paste your code I get a new device that is not linked to Live, and I cannot save it as a M4L device. Could you please explain what I am doing wrong, I'm sure it's something very simple, but every tutorial I watch or read uses the M4L templates rather than Max natively...
