I have a couple layers of animation that have color settings. I'd like to control the opacity of all of them at the same time. What's a good method for grouping these together to change to opacity of all of them without having the color of each individual layer change? 

jit.gl.node? or is there a method of send a message to several jit.gl.layer objects to only set the opacity without changing color?

I'm trying to do something similar I guess. But haven't figured out how to change the opacity of a parent object (jit.gl.node) so that it would not override the attached child object's colors.

With just one jit.gl.node in your patch, it's more like the jit.gl.node itself is the parent(otherwise, for things like this, i create a jit.gl.node for the overall group of objects and then another jit.gl.node attached from that one which is directly attached to the child objects only to parse out further parent/child/grandchild relationships.... hard to explain...).... but for the simple purpose of your patch, you could just send the color to the individual objects:

Yeah, that makes sense. I think what I was hoping to do was find a way to have the controls of the color separated from the opacity, but I guess with gl_color they are always linked.

oh crap, 😆🙈, sorry, i was actually answering AHTI's question, and didn't realize this thread was actually started this year(thought your question was from years ago and no one had an answer).... 

but ya for your question, i think your answer is correct, however, there may be a complex way using jit.gl.pix or the like to pull the alpha part of matrix data out(on a world/global scale) and process it separately.... i'm not sure, basically, don't take what i said to be an answer to your specific question (apologies again, i got confused here who was asking what 😅)

hopefully someone else might still have an answer for that(separating opacity from color might be possible but probably not through any jit.gl.node-related solution).

there's nothing builtin that does this, but you can easily create an abstraction to wrap this functionality. getattr will probably be useful for this. the patch below shows 2 possible ways to use an abstraction for this.

alternatively, you can create a custom jxs material shader that contains a parameter for alpha.
