I'm looking for a way to record multiple audio channels and while they are still recording, be able to go back in time, set an in and out point and play that section back as a separate file.

The audio channels will be feeds of peoples conversations and while they are happening I want to be able to jump in at a point of interest and replay the audio from that part of the conversation almost instantaneously. Once the replay is done, jump straight back to monitoring in real time.

Think of it like a instant replay when watching sports on TV, but for audio only.

Is there something out there that already exists for doing this sort of thing, some kind of sampler and if not, would max be the best way to go for building something that can achieve it?
