I’m building an application on the newest version of Max on an older (2015) mac air.

it’s a generative & interactive audio environment. The patcher and application work fine on my computer. When I send them to a new M1 mac there seems to be some sort of bug where strange things have happened, such as the following scenarios: 1. audio comes through the headphones and when the headphones are unplugged the audio disappears, even after deleting the application and reinstalling it. 2. No sound comes through at all. 3. Even with headphones plugged in the audio comes through the external speakers. 

ive had the option to select the audio driver through adstatus and also deleted that option. 

I can’t replicate the issue on the old mac that I’ve been working from.

I’m going to pull up the max patcher and build the application on the mac mini. Hoping that will resolve the issue. 

Anyone else had this issue? Any advice? Tutorials? Etc?

I haven't experienced this issue, but I've seen posts on the forum that suggest newer Macs treat headphone output differently than older ones. See:

I got the Mac mini that this application is going to run on to just build the app on the device itself. I quickly realized that on the audio status window, when selecting core audio, that I could choose from multiple devices. It would default to the headphones when they were plugged in. If I unplugged them while the application was open, it would automatically switch to internal speakers. When I plugged them back in, it would NOT switch back to headphones.

This is for an interactive for a museum. I was hoping that I could get the patcher to resolve this itself without having to manually open the audio status window. But it seems like that isn't possible?

I know you can specify the audio driver using ";dsp setdriver" followed by a number or symbol. See "Controlling MSP with Messages" in the documentation for more info. It looks possible to set a subdriver (or device) with an additional argument, but I haven't had any success.
