Yes. So was Max 6.

When you choose to download a Windows version, you are given the 32- and 64-bit options. Please visit the download page:

I was talking about the Mac version.. when I go to Max -> About it says (32-bit version).

So Max 7 is not available in 64-bit?

Go to the Max 7 application icon, right-click on it and choose "Get Info" (or select the icon and hit command+I). Uncheck the "Open in 32-bit mode" option.

This is how Mac apps with both 32 and 64-bit options work.

Very good to learn this thanks!

actually, this is weird.
I have had to select/deselect 2 times to switch.

Maybe it's a silly question but...what's the differences between Max 32-bit and 64-bit (maybe more accurate signal processing, more available values in float vars, i'm just guessing)? and why is 32-bit the default setting? (for me at least, OS X 10.10.2)

@AROCKMEZ: excepted the usual differences, I'm personally concerned about externals.
Sometimes, you find some externals only for 32 bit and you want to use max in 64 bit for memory handling reason (for instance)

got it...i was thinking about having a large amount of RAM available for Max while doing things live but externals could be a problem.

Is it mandatory to design a 64 bit external and a 32 bit external as two different projects or there's a way to design it for once and make it work for both bit depths?

Thanks JULIEN BAYLE

how do you know if the switch werked? I've unchecked 32 bit by getting info on the app icon. but when i run max, in the about max info panel, it still indicates that it is in 32 bit mode.

ideas? or does that panel not change?

It's really quite silly. I could recreate what you're saying by launching Max7 from the OSX 10.10.2 dock. That way it stubbornly kept starting as a 32 bit application, even while the "Open in 32-bit mode" checkbox was unchecked. Starting the corresponding application directly from the Finder Applications launched Max consistently in 64 bit mode. When I removed Max from the Dock and dragged it back in, the issue remained. But after rebooting OSX, both finally started in 64 bit mode. I'm guessing this is a bug in OSX. Remember you must remove Max from the dock and put it back in again from the Max.App that has "Open in 32-bit mode" unchecked. Then reboot. Good luck!

ill give that a try....
thanks

that did it...sorry, meant to respond.

remove icon from doc > get info on app > uncheck start in 32bit > restart machine > ad icon back to doc......solid.
