I would like to record various 3D animations (geometry matrix only, stuff I feed into first inlet of jit.gl.mesh) and then play them back. As far as I know jit.matrixset is the only object that is currently able to do that as it doesn't compress the data. I have two problems with it:

1. How to record "offline" without any framedropping and also some optimum speed?

Below is the patch/technique that I use with jit.record (instead of metro I use a feedback bang loop with lots of deferlow objects). Each time a frame is recorded in jit.record it triggers another bang. Since jit.record outputs a matrix (or some bang) after each recorded frame that techniques works perfectly. However jit.matrixset doesn't give us any bang saying "hey I've recorded a frame" so I still get some framedropping. Please see the patch and suggest any improvements. Thank you!

2. Is there any way to read matrixsets from disk rather than RAM? Loading a bigger matrixset into jit.matrixset takes few seconds while I would want instantaneous playback. Essentially I would like to play back my 3D animations as "clips in Ableton Live".

The problem is that I have 16GB of RAM and around 200GB of material (all in smaller matrixets like 2 to 4 GB). So I can not load everything in RAM. Also I am doing a lot of processing on the played back animation so loading one matrixset while playing another is not an option - it stops rendering or crashes Max.

a different strategy is to read/write single frames from jit.matrix, rather than use jit.matrixset. it may help with the stalling when reading new clips (depending on disk speed, cpu utilization, and matrix size).

unfortunately, there's no asyncread functionality built into the jit.matrix or matrixset binary file read / write functionality. i'll look into the possibility of adding that as a feature request.
