I've been giving a workshop in Brussels for the past three weeks (one evening a week) and one of my students was interested in Andrew's recipe 54: zoom.

Now this is really a beginner's workshop so a number of things that go on in that patch went way over his head so I decided to re-structure it a bit and comment some parts of it that were most confusing. I tried explaining some things as I understand them and maybe it can be helpful to others so I've uploaded it here:
