Anyone ever had a live.text output 0 (or anything else) upon receiving the message "active 1"? I can't reproduce it consistently but I've caught 2 different live.texts doing it and the debugger confirms that the 0 comes out 

after receiving this message. Something obvious I'm missing?

"active 1" generates output if the object state has been changed while it was inactive. So it's basically a delayed output of the change.

So it does, so it does. I was starting to suspect something like that. It can also happen in button mode. In my case it seems if the down-click causes the button to become inactive before the release of that same click, when the button becomes active again it will output 0.

It's strange though, because if you manually click the button while it's inactive, it doesn't output anything when it becomes active again.

I can confirm your button example. Apparently a timing problem. And output 0 from button looks like confusion with toggle mode.
