Seems to be one of the more sparsely documented data structures with no examples that use it in the SDK.

If you comment out line 180 "x->a_indexMapTest = indexmap_new()" the build succeeds.

Unfortunately, `indexmap_new()` is not a function we export from the Max kernel. The indexmap class is designed specifically for use with the dataview features in Max. The dataview typically creates any new instances of an indexmap.

Is there another data structure that will work for what you need?

The OP was also asking about this on the Facebook group page, and we discovered the other thread where indexmap was mentioned as being more for internal use, so the OP is gravitating towards 'linked-list' and I thought that might be best, too: Farfisavox was looking to recreate the regular Max 'poly' object but with more musically-informed voice-stealing(steal nearest note or steal highest or lowest, etc... adding more voice-stealing options to 'poly', basically).

If you think there's another data-structure better than 'linked-list' for this type of thing, please let us know, Thanks!

If you are using C++, I suggest using std::vector.

The part in Bjarne Stroustrup's keynote in GoingNative 2012 where he explains the reason that linked lists, and linked structures, are so bad for performance, even in the scenarios that programmers think that linked lists would be good.

Thanks Raja -- For C++ development these days, I actually recommend the Min development kit. Some of the ideas from Jamoma are included in a more refined form.

You can grab it via Max's Package Manager.
