Hi,
So that's real, you can't record a simple 1 plane matrix with [jit.record] ?
Even with a four plane matrix, trying h264, jpeg and other is not possible ?
And no need to mention that the @adapt does not work ...

it's mentioned in the help file, only 4 plane char data is supported with jit.record. shoving the 4 plane matrix in the signal chain recorded as expected with prores4444. i assume other codecs require more standard dims for proper encoding. this is all internal apple stuff so who knows (assuming you are using the avf engine).

I'm trying to export that 1 plane char matrix to get a file allowing pixel lighting on a ledstrip (openframeworks). My "partition" is all made in Max. The only solution I found is to export the "video" as a text file, but that makes a lot of textfiles ...!!

did you try what i suggested (converting to 4 plane and recording with prores4444)? I had no problem making a recording of the input doing that.

or manually remove the "unused" channels with another program later if you really have a reason to do so.

However this format is not the best option for me since I need a pixel RGB format (3 values for WS2813 strip). I don't really know where to go with this. Is there a video codec adapted for such application (ledstrip ligthing)?

i'm really not sure why you can't use the technique that works, or why you are looking for another codec.

The idea is to send 3 values to an artnet node using this technique described by P.Elsea (attached).

Unfortunately [aka.datagram] is deprecated since Max 8. I was not able to find something instead.

I think now to export the visual ("partition") from Max to an app made with openframework using a video file.

But I'm not sure 4 planes video will do the trick. The strips need only 3 values ...

if X or Y´s dim == 1 i would convert it it to an audio signal and peek it into a buffer. it could still be reimported as a matrix later.

if it is only a short strip (say like ~2000 frames?) you could also write the frames into lines of a still image (and export that as bin matrix file)
