I would like to copy the main MGraphics context to an Image that I can write to a matrix. In the documentation for mgraphics it states "To move the contents of an MGraphic instance into a Image object, you just pass the MGraphic into the Image during instantiation (myImage = new Image(mgraphic_instance))."

I have tried something like the following

This does not work. Is this because mgraphics is not an MGraphics instance? If so, is there a way to get the underlying MGraphics instance? If not this seems like an error in the documentation. I am aware the using push_group/pop_group allows one to get an Image from a drawing group but I don't want to use that approach. Any thoughts?
