Multiple Quicktime "Previews" vs. Performance

    Mar 03 2007 | 2:07 am
    Hi All,
I'm creating a simple VJ app, and I want to have multiple previews.
The problem is that when I issue a "read" command to get the file going... it continues streaming from disk, even if i disconnect the metro clocking source. This means that 1 or 2 clip previews works okay, but 8 or 10 is impossible.
How do I get the previews setup so that the read isn't continuous, but each clip loads maybe to a frame and stops... then when i "throw it live" it runs (I'm also currently setting it up with an invisiible button so that preview "runs" when you click on each preview.
The idea is that maybe 8, 80x60 preview clips "load" (i.e. start reading) , and can be clicked on to initiate motion, but they won't all be continuously streaming from disk; only while mousedown, or when thrown to the main output "window"
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    - Valentin

ok wow. thats an old patch I sent and a lot of it is uh, really badly
done (lots of poor design decisions), but hopefully you'll get the
idea and fix some bugs, or strip out the poorly implemented cross
      fading functionality.
Apparently ive never heard of the 'change' object back when I wrote
      that.
      hyuck.
Hope it at least helps somewhat.

This is what I see in the forum:
      this should get you started
No attachment or patcher text.. Looks pretty buggy. What did you attach/paste?

Hmmm... Nothing was attached or embedded in your response.
I appreciate your reply, and would love to see the patch you're referring to.

Ah, of course, the whole email/forum conversion thing. I agree that it's quite an ambitious system. I see similarities with max itself ;)
