my pluggos in their own folder

    May 09 2006 | 7:48 pm
i am wondering if there is a way to get my own pluggos to show up under their own folder (on the host menu). mode and pluggo show up separately but mine get lumped into the pluggo folder even if i have them in a separate folder on my hard drive.

i second that ! my pluggo folder is containing somthing like 250 plugins or so, which is pretty annoying when searching thru the folder...
can it be done by a message to plugconfig or something ?
if not, could you sweet cycling people please make it possible ?

I've found that I don't actually need to keep my self-created pluggos
in the Pluggo folder for them to be seen by other apps?

yeah, just create one yourself and name it what ever you want. i
guess it must be in the vst - folder though.

i've experimented with having them in different folders in the vst folder, but it doesnt make a difference in dp.
i was thinking maybe a special command was necessary in plugconfig.
perhaps it wont work in dp?

i use different folders for my own vst-pluggos, i want the plugins to have their own manufactor names, like Hipno & Mode... it's not really a problem with vst-hosts, but with AU-hosts like Logig Audio.
It's very annoying to be searching thru all 200 pluggos everytime.... they are in alphabetic order, i know, but i tend to forget the exact name of a lot of plugins.
It would need to be supplied to plugconfig to work for sure, but is there allready some secret message i dunno about ?
      one of theese ?

Yes, great idea ! That would be very cool for AU host !
And if ever for PT they could take advantage of the category foldering that yould be icing on the cake !

I've done a bit of investigation.
It does seem to be specific for AU Hosts. So I looked inside the
Pluggo.component package, and in Contents/Resources, you will find a
file called "Pluggo.rsrc". If you open this up in a resource editor
(I use Resorcerer), you will find a resource called STR (or String).
In there, you will find lots of entries like "Hipno:Amogwai",
"Hipno:Brita", "Pluggo:additive heaven", and then if you have any
self-developed plugins, they'll be listed as "Pluggo:My Cool Pluggo"
      for example.
If you then change that resource such that your plugins have a
different prefix, like "My Plugins:My Cool Pluggo", and then open up
an AU hosting app, you will now see your plugin in its own folder,
      called "My Plugins".
So it seems as though the AudioUnit Scan application is writing this
Pluggo.rsrc file into the Pluggo.component each time it is run. Sure
enough, if you run the scan again after making the change above, it
will revert your plugin to appear in the Pluggo folder.
So..... I think we are at the hands of Cycling to make a change to
the AudioUnit Scan application to allow end users to supply a custom
folder name for their self-developed Pluggos, OR come up with a
separate utility to modify the Pluggo.rsrc file *after* the AudioUnit
Scan application has done it's job. The latter is not desirable
though, because then each time the Scan app is run again, it will
      undo that post-processing.
What do you say Cycling?? Please, pretty please??

There may be something we can do that would be even better. No
      promises yet...

This will be possible in a future update to Pluggo.

Yeah I would love to be able to create custom folders too... A folder for reverbs, a folder for eqs, a folder for filters...etc... It would make finding things a whole lot easier...
