      Hi Steve,
Just to make sure, are you using the netsend/netreceive objects that
send control data, or the netsend~/netreceive~ objects that are used for
sending multichannel audio over a network? I'm guessing the former since
the signal objects are still alpha I believe and haven't been out for
that long. Have you tried contacting Olaf Matthes regarding the crash? I
am having similar problems with his commercial OggPro packag (i.e., I
paid for it), but have not gotten much response in the way of a fix.
I download the netsend/receive control data objects and opened the help
files, ran the tests, and didn't have any problems (data was just sent
to localhost though). I'm using 4.5.6 on OS 10.4.5. Curious if you've
tried the otudp object for OSX available here:
Wondering if that could be a potential substitute for you.
      Best,
      Peter

No, your oggPro problem is a totally different beast because feedback
loops never worked and he says that what he is trying to do used to work.
Steve, did you try to open the help patches that come with netsend /
netreceive? Do they work or do they all crash? I once had a similar
problem and later on found out that it was related to a loadbang that
was used to establish several connections at a time.

      Olaf,
Thanks for the reply -- I have tried opening the help and example patches
downloaded from your site. They crash.
I found some other patches on other lists late last night -- they crash.
IF I open my patches with a text editor and remove the netsend or receive
lines and open the newly modified patch in MAX the patch opens (without the
NET objects and with the expected errors associated with connections going
to nowhere). The rest of the patch seems OK. No loadbangs in these
      patches.
I have run these patches on OSx and Windows. I have run them successfully
between multiple institutions simultaneously and connected to PD. Up until
now run them without an error.
I can work with other 3rd party externals without problem -- it is just
these. I am at a total loss.
I checked the console and appear to be throwing java errors when these
patches try to launch. I am trying to reinstall JAVA to see if something is
messed up on that end. Console message below!
Could recent JAVA updates be the cause of this or am I way off base?
      Again any help greatly appreciated.
      Steve
As an aside -- PD still netsends (locally) and jit.send etc still sends and
      receives (locally).

I have seen this Java errors before with netsend / netreceive. But I
couldn't make any sense out of them...
Which OS X version are you running? Did you install any OS X updates
      recently?
