Nonrealtime / Audiosuite channel number error

I'm trying rebuilding some plug-ins with Pluggo 3.6, and was excited to see that "nonrealtime" is now offered as an plugconfig option, enabling the plug-ins to run as Audiosuite.
The plug-ins run fine as inserts (using Pro Tools 7.1), and also came up when selected from the Audiosuite menu. I was able to successfully use the "preview" button as well. However, when I tried the "process" button, this error came up:
"This plug-in only processes 2 channels at a time. The current selection is not a multiple of that amount."
...when, actually, the routing on this plug-in is flexible, and can run, as an insert, as either mono or stereo.
So, my questions: is Pro Tools basing the error on the number of channels in the plugin~ and plugout~ objects? (I don't see anything in plugconfig~ to set the number of channels.) And two, are there any workarounds for this, besides, perhaps, building a seperate mono-only version of a mono/stereo plug-in?
    Thanks, Leigh

I believe Pluggo has only ever worked in stereo-to-stereo configurations when working with old-fashioned AudioSuite plugs.
