Patch only opens as text

    Oct 31 2006 | 11:37 am
I have a patch which was working fine, but now will
only open as text (ie. double-clicking or using 'Open'
    produces a text file.)
In the Preview pane it showed it's type as being 'Max
patcher (binary)' whereas other patches are described
as either 'Max binary file' or 'Max text file'. All
other Max text patches are happy to open normally, or
    as text if required.
Copy/pasting the contents to a new text window and
saving just produces another file that will only open
    as text.
I tried changing the file type with some bit of
shareware, but it crashed whilst saving & screwed the
file header; fortunately I had a copy, but this still
    only opens as text.
How can I edit this patch ?
    (Intel iMac, OS 10.4.8, Max/MSP 4.6.2)
    cheers
    Roger

      Roger,
try pasting the text between the second and third line of this patch.
      max v2;
Save and just open in Max.
      G'luck.

Have you tried opening it from Max? - ie: Open Max - go to
File>Open... - select the file and open it. That should work, and
when you save it again from Max it should be OK.
      Hope that helps

Unfortunately neither double-clicking from the Finder
nor opening from within Max will open the patch as a
      patch - just text.
I have occasionally experienced similar problems with
older Max versions, but that was always with patches
created by copy/pasting text from the list, whereas
this is a patch that I created myself in Max 4.5, then
edited in 4.6 and saved - not even as text, but as a
patch, so God knows why it's suddenly decided to be a
      text file !
I noticed using InfoDrop, that it's permissions are
different from othe Max text files that I've tried,
      though repairing permissions hasn't helped...
      I don't get it.
      cheers

Sorry all - I should have looked more closely at the
text; somehow the words 'tap.limi~' had become
inserted before the first 'max v2;'
      (Damn my failing vision...!)
      Cheers
