I try to compose a message to be sent via UDP to a mixing console. I have an intro message "/config/mute/" followed by a channel number - which should be adjustable - and an outro message "OFF". In both versions I get a leading space before the channel number such as "/config/mute/ 2 OFF" instead of "/config/mute/2 OFF". What is the reason for this and how can one avoid this?

prepend and append add space between items, that is normal.

You can use sprintf object for that
