Is this possible -- is there any way to obtain the name of the currently loaded plugin from the vst~ object?

the filename ... is already there - it must have been there when you were loading the plug-in.

as for the aeff ID of the plug-in, i dont think it is possible, at least not with the vst~ object.

eventually it could work using [filein], but it does not seem worth the work.

I also wish this were possible for my own convoluted workflow reasons..

Yeah, this would especially be useful when a plugin is saved into a [vst~] in a Live Set. Once you reload the Live Set you no longer have access to the name.
