question about audio interfaces for MAX/MSP on a G4 powerbook

I am wondering which interface is going to work for me. i am doing a lot of signal processing of live signals and want to move to 4 or more audio inputs. would obviously like to keep latency to a minimum..
i am considerintg the Presonus FIREPOD (or that class of device) does anyone have any pointers, experience with this or know how feasible this is. spec wise my CPU is a G4 running at 1.33G Hz and i have 1Gig of RAM.i am on a limited budget so need to make a wise purchase and i am most definitely open to recommendations based on things you know work.
    thanks,
    Mika

I'm working with a MOTU Traveler with a MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz - I love
it, either bus powered or external power supply - no problems.
As always, your mileage may vary...
