can someone share or point me to a simple quicktime playlist
    external/abs?
I want to have 10-20 movies in a directory and randomnly pick from
    them.
    cheers~

Hrm, I guess my prior email got eaten by the list/forum thing -
      apologies.
You can build your own very easily.
      look at:
random (makes pseudo-random numbers within a range)
ubumenu (can be used as indexing or gui to select files from a folder)
dropfile (can be used to give ubumenu the folder for it to list)
      and of course
      jit.qt.movie to play the movies.
      loosely, youd do something like
      dropfile
      |
      ubumenu
      |
      jit.qt.movie
      |
      jit.window
of course, the fun part is the stuff between the main objects (and
you can get a lot more complicated too). Id say check some of the
tutorials and example patches. This is pretty straightforward in max,
and would be a good project to get your feet wet and learn Max with.
      No externals required...

ok, i took vades advice and built a VERY simple one using tutorial
      patches
any novel suggestions on randomnly stepping through the ubumenu?
    • Mar 21 2006 | 5:51 pm
      Hi Pat
I suggest using the ubumenu vs the umenu
ubumenu has a dumpout outlet that tells you how many items its been
autopopulated with. (route populate iirc will do it off of the
      dumpout outlet)
so, what you can do with that information is
populate the ubumenu via the dropfile (as you are doing with the umenu)
ubumenu dumps out the number of items its populated,
send the number of items to random to set the upper bounds of the
      random number generator
(ie: if you have 16 movies, ubumenu will dumpout '16', ( send 16 to
the right inlet of random and it will generate a random number every
bang its gets between 0 and 15 (16 numbers), so then hook up a metro
to the random to control the frequency of the random
