I just wanted to share that \\w+ was giving me a hard time with äÄ öÖ üÜ ß if they appear at the beginning of a word.

Solution is: regexp [a-zA-ZäöüßÄÖÜ0-9]+

This leaves the string intact (e.g.: "Älüm Güßmir") because of the "+" at the end of the expression. Without the "+" it returns a string for every character (e.g.: "Ä l ü m G ü ß m i r") which is not what I wanted :)
