I am creating a surface with jit.bfg and jit.material @heightmap_mode vtf_normals. it's a great solution for this kind of work since it's all gpu based. the drawback though is that I am not sure how to get the coordinates of the warped plane from the mesh. I tried to add or subtract the jit.bfg values from the coordinates of the plane to get a similar corrugation to no avail: the result is very different.

Hey, i had a look at your patch but unfortunately i cant run the left part because im a max6 pleb :) so i cant check but i think this is what you were looking for?

If so, it didnt work because you were adding x,y,z to the mesh instead of just z.

Thanks for the answer but no, it is still a different result. I had tried adding just z... I am not sure what process jit.gl.material uses to render the heightmap...

you're not going to get it exactly to match, but you can get close. the vtf_normals shader samples the red plane of the heightmap, and moves the vertex along it's normalized normal value, scaled by the heightmap value:

Ok, thanks. The result from jit.gen and the heightmap in the patch you posted are still pretty far apart (and they don't seem to follow the same pattern), am I missing something?
