RSS image feed parsing / jitter display

I've searched all around and found a few mentions of Max RSS parsing, but nothing that really explains the process at all. My goal is to take a RSS image feed (a flickr tag), and get the images to display in a jitter "slideshow" of sorts. I want the "slideshow" to be controllable for speed, etc (which I have mostly worked out), but can't get the RSS bit to work. Any suggestions?
