I have been using the serial object to drive a DAC system via an USB to serial adaptor. This has worked for years, happily running at 115200 baud. However, after one of the late releases of Max 7, the serial object began to occasionally loose its inlets and outlets when the patch was saved and Max was closed. When I reopen the patch the object is there, but no connections. With 8 this behavior became permanent. At first, I could get the connections back by editing the arguments, but eventually that stopped working. Sometimes, changing to a lower rate will help, but not always. If I made a new instance of the serial object, I'd get the same result, no in or outlets.

Now, if I open the serial help and edit my object while help is open, the outlets and inlet will reappear.
