    Hi,
I used the spectral shapers from soundhack.com without
any problem inside logic pro as au-plug in.

      Hi Sascha
      i'm on a powerbook 1,33 with 1,25gb ram, 10.3.9, max457, and i have the same problem...

to be more precisely; it seems to be a GUI problem.
The CPU capacity raises to 95-100% when I open the window of the
spectrum shaper (doubleclick on vst~), and goes down again when I close the window.
I will post this problem also to the spectrum shaper forum at
      soundhack.com

      Hi,
I have experienced the same issue when opening the spectral shapers
      GUI via vst~
in my performance patch. Only, if I repeatedly open and close the
      GUI it crashes max.
This is obviously not welcome during a live performance!
I wrote to Tom Erbe about this issue and sent him a crash report
      several months ago
and he said that the problem pointed to a GUI issue when it was
      trying to redraw.
He asked for my patch to test it on, but I haven't heard back from
      him...
Just to let you guys know that i've experienced the same behavior.
I hope this gets fixed soon as they are really great plugins!
      cheers,
      corey

I have got an answer from tom erbe about this problem:
i think i have found the problem which is causing this (it is causing max to want to redraw the gui repeatedly). oddly enough, this bug seems only to be triggered by max. this fix will be in next vst release, which is due out soon.

the interface of the soundhack plugs is written
in quicktime, maybe it is only making trouble
when there is other heavy GUI stuff happning in
      the max patch?
they are pretty slow in other hosts too, and we
are also used to slow graphics in maxsp ... the
combination of the two is probably too much ;)

I got this from Tom Erbe:
I have just finished a beta of SoundHack Spectral Shapers for VST -
Universal Binary. If you are interested in trying them out, you will
      find the link on http://www.soundhack.com
These should work on new versions of Ableton Live software
as well as Max/MSP. There are a number of fixes to improve their
      performance on Max/MSP as well.
      Thanks,
      Tom Erbe

You know, I have had quite a lot of problems with various vsts in maxmsp. Interesting to learn about the quicktime problems. I have had very many plugins that worked fine in other hosts act incredibly funny and invariably spike the cpu up to 100%. Such a shame ;/
