building granulator

Nov 06 2008 | 4:58 pm

Hi max forum

I wanted to know which objects in the max library are fundamental for
starting to build
a granular engine. Not externals like GTK or others.. just max source

Thanks

Aly

Hi,Try looking at the granularized patch in the max examples folder. That’ll give you an idea of what you need to build your own.Best,NicolasDate: Thu, 6 Nov 2008 16:58:32 +0000From: luis.aly@gmail.comTo: maxmsp@cycling74.comSubject: [maxmsp] building granulatorHi max forumI wanted to know which objects in the max library are fundamental for starting to builda granular engine. Check the example granulator: granularized.maxpat
Maybe it already does what you want, or you will personalize it.

It’s really creating something that will make a grain of sound, and
then making a lot of those and controlling them in some way. You can
use wave~ or line~ multiplied by some signal ( sample or tone,
whatever) to make the grain. Then use poly~ to make a bunch of them.
It’s up to you how to control it. There are so many ways to do it,
but this is a start.

you’ll also want to look into Nobuyasu Sakonda’s "Granular 2.5" patch which can be found easily through google. excellent patch – i modified a few things to my taste and i use it all the time.

Seconding Sakodna’s granular2.5 patch. You’ll probably need to tweak it a bit to work in Max5, but my current mammoth project used it as a base. It’s extremely flexible, and you can pretty easily add whatever features you might want to it.

Actually, does anyone know how to get in touch with him? The website that I’ve always seen linked doesn’t seem to work any more.
