It sounds extremely annoying. Most used keyboard-shortcut, ever. On my system this function only stops working when the focus reach a help page, and I think that bug has been mentioned here before. Your issue sounds a bit more specific, though.

Could it be a keyboard layout thing. Are you talking about cycling through windows? According to my knowledge this is done with cmd-~. On my keyboard (Dutch, close to American) layout the shortcut you mention is not possible, so I can't check.

I think Johan may be right here. I've never heard of Command-< (it would actually be written "Command-Shift-," in Apple documentation, etc.)

Apple's list of Mac OS X shortcuts doesn't show this shortcut anywhere (in either of the above formats):

However, the shortcut that Johan mentioned has always worked for me: Command-

to move to the next window of the current application, and Command-Shift-

I've also confirmed that these shortcuts work with the French keyboard layout, and are documented as such in Apple's documentation for the French layout under "Autres commandes"/"Other commands":

I think Johan may be right here.  I've never heard of Command-< (it would actually be written "Command-Shift-," in Apple documentation, etc.)

However, the shortcut that Johan mentioned has always worked for me: Command-to move to the next window of the current application, and Command-Shift- to move to the previous window.

I think it is when French is chosen as default keyboard layout. It is the same physical position as Cmd-` (backtick) on the US Keyboard layout.

@Mathieu: are you by any chance using Mac Toolbox? Did you, by any chance, install it a couple of months ago—ie, when Cmd-< stopped working for you?

I'm pretty sure that by default, I have this :

application ; ... but I would really prefer to continue using this 

good old command key for all this kind of shortcuts (as many mac 

users, my left thumb do not want to press any other key...)

is there a "secret" place somewhere in max where such a shortcut could

as I said in my first post :

Absolutely. The keys X and C are right next to each other on the keyboard layout I use (actually, this is true for almost all Roman script keyboard layouts).

Indeed you did. I forgot by the time we got to the bottom of the thread.

It's a puzzler, except somebody must be stealing the keystroke. Even more so because I _think_ the OS looks at the keystroke to match Keyboard Shortcuts before passing them on to the application.

The main point I wanted to clarify was that if you're using the French keyboard layout, the standard shortcut is what you said it is, and not what people using US or other keyboard layouts are used to.

The [command+`] command to switch between windows keeps shorting out in 5.0.5. Seems like it has something to do with having the help window open but it's kind of erratic.

I think I have never had this problem under Tiger / PB G4.

The OS/Intel is surely involved.
I think I have never had this problem under Tiger / PB G4.
