I've noticed that if you try to use jit.gl.pix on a machine that doesn't have a GPU on a dedicated graphics card, the object (understandably) doesn't work.

It would be useful to be able to automatically switch to jit.pix (which uses the CPU) in these circumstances.

Switching the object from a jit.gl.pix to a jit.pix should be straightforward using some patcher scripting.

The tricky bit would be detecting whether the GPU was present in the first place.

Just while writing this, a couple of solutions come to mind:

The patch could be loaded with a jit.gl.pix by default, and could be tested for output when banged. If no output occurs, it can be assumed there is no GPU on board. Then the patcher scripting could automatically switch to a jit.pix.

A workaround would be to have a switch that is manually set by the user if they observe that the patch is not working.

Are there any more elegant ways to automatically detect a GPU? Some global variable perhaps?
