I am trying to build a little object that i can use to tell me if a scene is playing or not.

As in I input a number.... say 4 for scene 4 and if it is not playing I get out a 0. And lets say seen 12 is playing... when i input 12 I get a 1

I can't seem to get my head around this one

This is actually pretty tricky, if you're not super comfortable with the API. You can't poll a scene to see if it's playing, you have to check if any of the clips are playing. And to avoid errors, you have to make sure that there is a clip in the slot before asking if it's playing. This patch works, but won't output anything if there are no clips in a scene. But if there are clips, and they are playing it will print a 1 to the max window, if there are clips but they aren't playing it will print a 0.

Excuse the mess, but I threw this together as fast as I could. It wouldn't be too hard to add a check that told you there weren't any clips, and output a zero, but I'll let you do that :)

i realized i could just store the number f the last scene i played, and then compare the scene i want to check to that!

My songs are organized in clusters of scenes vertically

I label an empty / clipless scene "SONG_A x"

below this scene are the scenes with the clips and the bpm info and such.

I do this because on my custom GUI I use the "x" to locate the song title and show it back to me for a group of songs.

anyway, what I'm trying to do is have a midi button that will go to next song or previous song. IE find the title with the next "x" and move my curser to that position.

So i think i need a patch that will identify the scenes with an "x" as the last sym in the name, give me the number of that scene and have a list of numbers i can scroll through with some midi buttons.

it is funny how when patching your brain stops working and when you step away or call your mom it comes to you. but this one. this one IDK

You'd have to stick to a strict naming convention. as long as your song scenes have two symbols (the title and the number) it would be easy to iterate through your scene list, find the ones with the numbers, and then be able to fire them at will.

but the patch perhaps should on load make a list of scene numbers with second symbol being an x, and then i could scroll through them

but I'm having the worst time constructing that it my head.

i could perhaps engage in some trade or something if you'd be willing to help me

im sorta under the gun, touring too soon

i guess all i need is the scene # for each of those scenes, not that there is a number in the title itself.

You could also just put the number after the BPM marking, and then slice the name to get the number. You could totally do it programatically.
