Is it just me or is there some weird script running on the Max download page that does not play nicely with Speed Download?

When I tried to download Max 7 just now - and the same thing happened when I updated to 6.1 - multiple copies of the download started and as fast as I could stop them, more were created, threatening to fill up my boot drive!

The only way out was to force-quit Speed Download.

OK, so the answer is probably to not use Speed Download, but if I block the plug-in, the download just times out...
