dp.kinect 64-bit external now available
I’ve finished the 64-bit port of dp.kinect for the Max environment.
You can download it at http://hidale.com/dp-kinect/
This x64 port has naturally received less usage/testing than the long available 32-bit version. You may experience issues. If you do, please open an issue at https://github.com/diablodale/dp.kinect/issues so that it can be resolved.
Updated to version 0.91 at http://hidale.com/dp-kinect/
dp.kinect now supports both 32 and 64-bit Max. It works on Max 5.1.9 -> current releases like 6.1.6.
Everything from point clouds, skeleton joints, face recognition, speech recognition, depth maps, rgb camera, and more are in dp.kinect. Documentation at https://github.com/diablodale/dp.kinect/wiki
I am having trouble with the registration of the external. It keep saying that it isnt registered or has expired.
I am using the latest package from your github with max 6.1.6 x64 on windows 7 x64.
Havent had such problem with any of the previews versions since you started developing that external.
Here is the max message:

dp.kinect: dp.kinect face tracking requires FaceTrackData.dll version 220.127.116.110 for your platform (x86 or amd64)
dp.kinect: dp.kinect is not registered or has expired. Register your key or visit the software section of http://hidale.com for a new registration key.
Please check that you have the newest download. My intention during the beta period is to update the keys shortly before they expire.
I updated the download yesterday (14th) with a new key. The download contains v0.93 of the external, yet the key (dpkinect.dpreg) in the ZIP file is a new key.
The previous registration key expired today (15th).
I’d like to use your dp.kinect object but I’m using an Apple computer.
At the moment I use Synapse to track my body with the kinect but it takes too long till the skeleton is scanned.
Do you have an alternative suggestion which works with tracking points but faster than Synapse?
I would be very pleased.
Thanx a lot.
Unfortunately, Apple killed the OpenNI project. They additionally terminated all licensing, distribution, and usage for the closed-source NITE middleware that did skeleton tracking. If NITE is being distributed (which Synapse is still doing)…they are doing so illegally…so be cautioned.
To my knowledge, there is only one solution generally available for skeleton tracking on the Kinect. It is the family of solutions based on the Microsoft SDK for Kinect of which dp.kinect is one. Microsoft has not released an SDK for the Mac and I strongly suspect that they will not do so in the foreseeable future.
Good news, Microsoft added support for running the Kinect in a Virtual Machine (VM). http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj663795.aspx writes about this and they explicitly list the Mac as an supported host OS.
Another option is to purchase a small miniPC for a few hundred dollars which can run the Kinect. You can run your solution/patch there or pipe it over to another computer using jitter, osc, or other data protocols.

thanx for your fast answer.
I’ll give openNI a shot. Found all necessary things. The OpenNI v18.104.22.168 version didn’t work on my MB but I found an older 22.214.171.124 version which just works fine.
I’m not such a big fan of VMs. It’s always a kind of a compromise which will -in my opninion- cause problems sooner or later.
So thanx for the openNI object.
It’s a pity that there is no db.kinect for MAC users.
All the best
I’m working with a dancer now – a long dream of mine.
Is there by any chance the possibility to ask you 2 or 3 private questions about openNI?
I couldn’t find an eMail address of yours anywhere.
If it would be ok for you, could u leave me a short note on
peerbaierlein at gmx.de ?
So I would have your address and I could write u back.
That would be fantastic.
