DSP on/off

May 10, 2007 | 11:15 am

Hello,

I’m fairly new to Max/MSP. But I recently changed computers and am having issues with getting the DSP to stay on. When a close one patch and open another it wont accept on/off messages from any patch or from the DSP Status window. Not even the tutorial patches. Does anyone have any suggestions?

oh yeah I’m using a new MAC with Intel processor running Max/MSP 4.6.

Have Max *and* MSP been authorized on the new machine?

Hehe, nice one

yeah they have. :/ I’m not that new to it. Everything starts up and runs ok until I close one patch and open another.

Or if I’m working in one patch and and turn DSP off I can’t get it to turn on again until I quit Max and start up again.

at the moment i’m just trying to get it going through the built in audio and out through an amp. It doesn’t like it or something else? Not sure.

Hm, that sounds strange. I haven’t had a problem like that before.

I do have the problem that dsp won’t switch on when I have another program focussed than max. More about that here:

This one is fixed for the forthcoming 4.6.3 version.

It is?! That’s awesome news! That will save me -a lot- of time!

I wonder if this is related to a crash I keep having.
If I’m working on something at home with my Firepod as the audio device and then try to open that patch later and use the built-in audio, it crashes when I turn ezdac~ on.
However, if I open Max/MSP, change my audio driver to built-in in the preferences, and THEN open the patch, it works fine.
Just annoying to have things crashing is all. :)

OK. So I am now running an M Box 2 pro with Max/MSP and still there are problems with the audio on/off. Maybe I installed something incorrectly or something.

I’m running 4.6.2 with OSX 10.4.8 on an mac book pro Intel type.

If I open max, open the audio tester from the extras menu, turn on the audio, I get audio. However, when I switch of the audio, either through the DSP Status window or within the patch itself, and try to turn it back on I get nothing.

The only way I can get audio again is to shut down Max and start it up again.

What have I done? Any more suggestions?

Thanks,

S

This sounds like the behavior of a MSP install that is in demo mode.

I have a few patches of old (actually not so old) that make use of
Trond Lossius’s tl.objects
but now i am on a MacBook "pro" and am looking for a UB…

I took a look at :

http://www.bek.no/~lossius/download

And see only tl.objects v. 2.2.0….

wasn’t a 4.0 in the works a while back? Is there a mac/intel build
floating around somewhere sub-google?

cheers,

-kevin
