Right up front, I'm an audio person. So please excuse my basic questions about jitter. I've attached a patch I'm working on and had some questions.

I'm generating points x, y, and z (just random points in my example patch here). I'm mapping those points in jit.gl.sketch using the point message. Looks okay. How can I take this geometric data and do more with it? How can I, for instance, use these points to create a shape in jit.gl.mesh? Or, how can they be similarly used in jit.gl.nurbs? Is it possible to define the color over time of each point? Can the points act like particles and have a birth/death time and color scheme? Or, is jit.gl.sketch the wrong avenue to pursue this type of 3D point data control?

If I was you I'd start playing around with the following.

Use jit.gl.gridshape to create basic geometry like a sphere, cube, etc.. Set it to Matrix_output 1 and then feed the output into jit.gl.mesh.

If you place some jit.gen or jit.op objects between them then you can manipulate the vertex array.

To create a rough point cloud look set your jit.gl.mesh to poly_mode 1 1 or 2 2.

This draws either lines or points (each vertex becomes a point) you can then play around with line_width and point_size.

Creating geometry with equations can also be done using the jit.expr object.

Use the jit.matrix.info object to analyse the out coming matrixes.

A traditional jitmatrix object can be 1d 2d or 3d.

When jit.gl.gridshape outputs it sends out 3 planes all 1d.

Plane 1 is the X position of each vertex, plane 2 is the Y position, plane 3 is the Z position.

You can also get each of those matrixes use jit.spill to turn them into a list and then use the zl.objects to manipulate the list.

Just a little correction on what you said 

jit.gl.gridshape @matrixoutput 1 outputs 12 planes. one the addresse everything indicated in Appendix B

I used to have a lot of problem with this when I initially started out with jit.gen

the vector / plane amount going into jit.gen was not same as the as the amount going out.

So I would get no output. ReadShafer, you have the use jit.unpack 1 @jump 3 to the 12 planes down to 3 planes.

i.e. [ jit.unpack 1 @jump 3 ] the 1st value indicates how many outlets you will have @jump 3 how many planes you want

ex b) [jit.unpack 3 @jump 2 4 1 @offset 3 8 0]  

2nd outlet planes =8 9 10 11 / 3rd outlet planes = 0 <

plane 3: s coordinate of texture at vertex, if textured

plane 4: t coordinate of texture at vertex, if textured

plane 5: x component of lighting normal at vertex

plane 6: y component of lighting normal at vertex

plane 7: z component of lighting normal at vertex

plane 11: alpha component of vertex color

plane 12: edge flag for connection to next vertex: if < 0, no line is drawn.

You've helped start me down the right path. I'm just starting to get into jit.gen, but I think this is where I need to be looking.

Getting more from jit.gl.sketch
