Hello, I'm having fun with [groove~ @lock 1 @followglobaltempo 1] and it's great:

The only thing I don't understand is how to tell groove~ "next beat 1 is your first beat". For example, when using a 16-bar loop, I want to be able to start the loop from its beginning at any chosen first beat (like the message reset for rate~).

Is there a way to do that? The phase message?

Thanks for the idea, but I don't think I understand what you mean. You're talking about the right signal outlet of groove~?

So I could get the loop's duration, convert it in number of bars, detect where the loop's first beat is in relation to transport's bar number, and deduct its current position in terms of bars. Then when I want to play the loop, I send the according phase message so the loop starts at its beginning.

The only thing is groove~ doesn't output anything on its sync output if it's not playing.

this is interesting. Christopher, why are you activating the metro at same time?

On my system (Mac OSX 10.8.5 and Max7.0.1), this patch doesn't work with an 8-bar loop loaded in buffer~. Sometimes it does, and sometimes the message startloop starts the loop in the middle.

The message startloop to groove~ doesn't do anything as soon as groove~ is @followglobaltempo 1

The audio samples loaded in groove~ @followglobaltempo 1 all begin at beat 1 bar 1.

So I ended up doing something like this (works with a 4-bar loop):
