I am trying to conduct an experiment that through the use of a digital modifier a headphone mix can emulate the listening conditions of loudspeaker playback. This would require some level of mimicking near and far field crosstalk, Inter Aural Level/Time differences and head related transfer functions. The ideal goal from it all would be to do so without introducing a number of unwanted artefacts into the audio.

The experiment has been made genre specific to Hip-Hop in the hope that thorough examination of the genres recurring spectral features can help make the result succesfull

The idea of the experiment is to give the listener a sense of externalisation when listening over over ear close back headphones.

Just wondering if anyone has done anything like this before or has any patches that emulate crosstalk or any form of binaural synthesis?

The final result is purely for educational reasons and will not be used commercially or for any form of profit, any help, advice or encapsulated patches will be properly referenced and would be hugely appreciated.

what you describe is an array of many parallel stereo to stereo room reflections each followed by binaural filters.

you can build that in max if you have too much time, but i would use silverspike RM-844 and either tre´s binaural plug or prosonic ambisone (since both are mono, you´d need 2 per channel)

That is definitely a modifier I would like to build- do you have any idea of particular objects that may come in handy or even any othe patches you have seen that manipulate the audio in such a way? The patch does not have to be perfect but I imagine a project like this may be very time consuming.

...but the crosstalk is not so simple in my opinion. it wouldnt make much sense to have interpolation and/or crosstalk between the different azimuth positions, when the delay times are not fitting perfectly to these positions.

if you are on window 32 bit-max, rm-844 (for the left and right delay pan parameters) and the [+binaural] max object should have a role in your first attempt.
