does anyone know how to linear-chain a series of short quicktime movies so when pressing a bang, it will play the 1st video in the chain, when pressing the same bang bottom for the 2nd time, it will play the 2nd video in the chain and so on?

It would be also helpful if you could tell me how to play them randomly too, just out of curiosity.

Bottom = button? Depends on if you want them buffered or not. If you just want to play them normally and you can load on the fly, just filling an [umenu] from a folder (autopopulate) and use [counter] to cycle through the items is fine. A small example, I don't have too much time:
