how to preserve the proportions when projecting on an uneven surface?

I’ve tried to search this but I didn’t manage to find what I was looking for.

how to explain this..
Let’s say I’ve placed a projector in my livingroom. My livingroom has a open door out to the hall.
Half of my image is now hitting the wall in the hall, and the other half on my livingroom wall.
Because there is a greater distance to the hall wall the image there is larger.

How kan I control that?

Is it possible to make a virtual surface in openGL that max see’s as a matrix in a way?
I’m quite new to max, but I have a teacher in school this week that knows alot.
He didn’t know how to do this, but with the right objects I’m sure I can figure it out with his help.

I have Max 6.0.4
