Grumbling Feathers

I am creating a performance partner which takes the audio subjects it to granular synthesis and then slices the resultant graincloud into golden sections each of which is looped with variations. I am not sure how to perform the buffer splitting however. I need to take the granular sample and split the buffer at the phi point (this creates a golden rectangle in 1 dimension with 2 samples) each of these samples is then split at the phi point (4) and so on and so forth until I have what will amount to a second grain cloud. Is buf.op the ideal tool to use or is there a simpler way to accomplish this? I considered using a waveform~ to crop the sample at phi but that is a destructive edit. Any advice at all would be very very welcome.
