it seems to be a problem of the window focus.

Can you post a *very* simple device where you seem this problem? I can't reproduce.

I have to click first the Track header that the device is contained within and then the Live Dial in the subpatcher window.

I have to click first the Live Dial and then the main Live window headline.

strange, that not everyone can reproduce it.

this is a work around.
1) to assign a MIDI controller:
I have to click first the Track header that the device is contained within and then the Live Dial in the subpatcher window. 

2) to erase a assignment:
I have to click first the Live Dial and then the main Live window headline.

Ableton is already working on it.
