Hey guys, I'm new to this forum so take it easy on me!

Basically I'm at uni at the moment studying Music Technology, and one of my modules is centred around coding objects using Java within MaxMSP

I've got a coursework deadline coming up which requires me to code an object which is musically useful within MaxMSP. We've learnt about how to code if statements, while loops, and arrays, and I'm pretty comfortable with the coding side.

My problem is I can't think of an idea to code! For my first piece of coursework I coded a simple arpeggiator, but I can't think of anything else that I could create using if statements, while loops, and arrays that would be musically useful!

Would anyone be able to help me out and suggest anything that I could possibly create?

TLDR; What musically useful objects can I create using Java within MaxMSP that only use if statements, while loops and arrays (not an arpeggiator)

You'll get better suggestions if we know if you're talking about javascript or java. They are very different.

is it java or javascript? they're two different languages. i'd suggest an isorhythm generator, where you have a series of intervals in one inlet, combined with a series of durations in another, and combine the two to output-- a good pedagogical exercise that is immediately useful...

I'm using Java, not Javascript, sorry for any confusion!

Java rather than JS, really? Even speaking as a JVM fan, I'm surprised Java is currently being taught for use in Max, unless timing performance is a key consideration...

Regarding what to code: isn't the choice of project part of the assignment? For basic ideas I'd check out the createdigitalmusic blog - it's full of interesting stuff.
