unfortunately, this technique is not going to work with gl.text. when matrix output is enabled, gl.text outputs a single matrix for each letter, so in your example patch you are outputting 9 matrices each draw frame.

you will have to create a jit.xfade, jit.gl.mesh combo for each letter you want to warp in this way, using something like poly~.
