1 - open new default live project (1 blank audio, 1 blank midi track, no instruments or anything loaded)

2 - add instance of base Max Midi Effect to the blank midi track, click edit button

(2a - not really a giant issue, but perhaps an indicator of something larger: the first time i press the edit button, the patching window doesn't show up, just the max window. i have to click edit button again (turn it off) to end editing max session, then click it again to get the patcher to appear.)

3 - w/in midi effect base patcher (just the midi in and midi out objects present), add 2 buttons, connect out of one to in of the other.

4 - click the first button, second button "latches" solid, like clicking an LED object. clicking on it doesn't change state again, nor does clicking first button again. this happens with as many buttons as i have in a chain: the first button in the chain that is clicked causes all subsequent buttons to "latch" on permanently, until they are deleted. note that the button that is clicked itself toggles back off immediately, as all the buttons should (as long as the button being clicked has not already been latched via clicking a button up the chain first).

object triggering button(s) to latch doesn't have to be a button, but that's just the simplest example. message boxes, number boxes, etc also cause the latching. same problem with live.button object.

this issue isn't occurring in max standalone, only within max for live environment. i can't say how long this has been going on, as i'm only really noticing it now, but it seems to be a recent problem. would like to avoid reinstalling, but i feel like this would have been encountered by someone else already.

i don't think it's 10.6.8 that is to blame here necessarily, though issue is isolated to the mac pro at least. as max itself seems to be working ok, does it make sense to reinstall max 5?

well, permission repairs and restart may have resolved issue. buttons seem to be ok now, as well as patcher window visible after clicking edit button. sorry for posting about it without due process of maintenance.

i'll follow up if i see issue return or notice a pattern.
