What could cause this? Is there any way to troubleshoot or bug-fix a patch that I can't open without crashing max?

It's a pretty involved patch so I dread building it again from scratch.

If you could provide additional infos (os, max version, patch, 

crashlog...), we might be able to help you a little bit. You might 

first to make sure that your search path is clean, and that the issue 

doesn't happen because of a third party external which could be

If you could provide additional infos (os, max version, patch,  
crashlog...), we might be able to help you a little bit. You might  
first to make sure that your search path is clean, and that the issue  
doesn't happen because of a third party external which could be  
incompatible with Max 5.

moved from max 4.3 to max 5... now an important patch crashes max on startup!
