I have a patch with a complex UI that was built in MAX 4.21 and used for a few years without problems. When I open that patch in 4.5 or 4.6, the following occurs:

--pictctrl initialize with no complaints (looks good - nothing in max window)

--they all perform their control functions perfectly

--some never visually update to indicate slider position, toggle, etc.

--if I lock/unlock the patcher, the most recently touched "broken" ones will come back to life visually. (previously working ones will visually break at this point)

--if I "Get Info" and retype the pict name, that object will be fixed until I reopen the patcher.

Also, my pict files are declared via Get Info with filenames only (myfile.pct) not path names. Their folder is in the MAX search path and I never get "can't find file" errors.

(patch uses bpatcher and lots of picts, so it's too unwieldy to post as text)

afaik thats a known problem which can be dealt with with a message 

box containing ";max refresh" and being banged afer those hangs.
