Hi, I’m having trouble getting the vst~ object to respond to data from a MIDI controller.

As far as I can tell, I’ve set everything up correctly. I get MIDI from midiin, feed it into midiparse, and feed the rightmost inlet (“midievent message”) into the leftmost inlet of vst~. If I stick a print on the midiparse outlet I get correctly formatted MIDI messages (e.g. for a controller knob on my Novation SLMKII, I’ll get a message like “midievent 176 21 xx,” where xx is the controller value). So far so good.

But the vst~ object doesn’t respond to any of this MIDI. I’ve tried lots of different plugins, all of which work perfectly fine in Ableton Live. I’ve tried midi-mapping knobs, sending notes to virtual instruments, etc. and nothing happens. The vst~ does respond normally to other control inputs like parameter changes.

I did a search and found lots of threads on feeding midievent messages into vst~ but all of them dealt with specific problems. Nobody seems to have described a situation where vst~ doesn’t get any MIDI at all.

Platform? Version of Max? 32-bit/64-bit? Sample patch?

Solved it! I was foolishly testing this in a subpatch with no ezdac~. Flipped on DSP and now everything works like a charm. Silly me.
