I have need to delete clips programatically, but as far as i can tell the api does not support this (feature request perhaps?). I came across this however

and was thereby given hope for my quest. I got ring_keyPress working but my situation is a bit more complicated than RA's i think. Periodically a 'fire' function is called on an entire scene which leaves the scene selected and when ring_keyPress comes along it deletes the entire scene rather than just the clip itself, even if i have selected the correct clip slot with 'set highlighted_clip_slot' (or a combination of 'set selected_track' and 'set selected_scene'). That selected scene is just a bastard to get the focus off of. I have even tried calling select_instrument in order to select the device instead, but the scene always remains selected. It seems the only way is to manually click in the session grid OR, as I have discovered, to press the left-key on the keyboard a few times and move the highlighted cell out into the grid. So now my avenue of progress is to use ring_keyPress to enact a few left-key presses before using it to delete. It works in the test patch I created

which is a modification of RA's from the link above. Notice the different and correct behavior if you click 'fire scene 1', then 'Left' a couple times, which has been modified to use ring_keyPress (rather than the button labeled '00' or any of the others which select clip slots more directly via the other methods I mentioned trying) and finally 'Delete Clip'. However this has been difficult to implement in the algorithm of my actual patch for some reason, where it's all done autonomously and not triggered by UI commands.

If there's any hope at all I'll keep at it though (* shakes fist in the air *), I'm just wondering if anybody out there might have some suggestions of a better or alternate way to go about this; really any comments or information at all would be appreciated. The reason I need to delete the clip at all is that I need to re-record the audio in it and firing a scene or clip slot with a clip already in it just causes it to play. As far as I know there's no way to set an audio clip to be recorded over, is there?

WWWHHAAATT?? There IS a function to flat out delete a clip? How out of date is the LOM and what else can the api do that I've been missing? Delete/create tracks perhaps?

I believe this has been present since Max 6.1. And yes, you can delete_track as well.

That's great to know. The real money function would be create_track. Any plans for that one?

create_audio_track / create_midi_track / create_return_track? All functions of a Song.
