I can't crack this and I'm sure it's very simple - how to get a smooth and accurate output of numbers from 0.000 to 1.000 and back again (to drive xfade).

On earlier advice I'm trying to use cpuclock to avoid the jittery output I'm getting from line.

The problem in the patch attached lies in how to toggle between a stream of 0 to 1 and another of 1 to 0.
